Case Study of Contract Engagements
In the fall of 2005, Regency worked with a mid-sized Dallas law firm to evaluate their procedures for creating documents in Word 2000 and their skill level using Hummingbird DM 5.1 and Outlook 2003. Word had been installed without any legal-specific customizations and employees had received minimal training. We customized Word's normal template (normal.dot) and created a firm toolbar that contained shortcuts for repetitive tasks. Through the evaluation of the document creation and work processes, Regency Training determined the firm's training needs and created customized documentation, lesson plans and quick reference cards. Provided also were feature-specific focus classes for each of these products which were filmed by a professional videographer to be used for new hire training and refresher classes.
In the summer of 2006, Regency again consulted with this firm regarding their planned upgrade to Word 2003. At that point the firm did not utilize a metadata removal tool or any Word add-on tools. The decision was made to purchase Out-of-Sight and Innova Templates and Numbering, both SoftWise Corporation products, and upgrade to Adobe 7.0 Professional. Once the software was installed, we worked with the installation team to test the products and templates. Again, Regency Training wrote customized curriculum, which was certified for CLE credit, and customized quick reference cards. Regency also managed the training project and established a grid for total hours of training required, duration of classes, and a training schedule for human resources use. Training was conducted over a period of five weeks.
In the fall of 2006, Regency Training and Consulting was contracted by a Dallas-based firm with offices in Austin and Houston to provide multiple services. The firm was migrating from Word 2000 to Word 2003, but most of their legacy documents had been created in Word 2000. These documents had been poorly created and were at a high risk for corruption. The firm took this opportunity to convert the Word 2000 documents to Word 2003 and clean them up using DocXTools. As Word 2003 was rolled out by practice group, each group's documents were converted and cleaned up over the weekend prior to the roll out. This procedure allowed clean, stable documents to be available for use as users received their new image. Using a team of highly-skilled, well-qualified specialists made this a successful endeavor. Floor support was also provided to this client in each of its locations to provide immediate, desk-side assistance as users returned to their desks. Regency Training and Consulting also provided help desk staffing during the migration and for several months thereafter to supplement the in-house help desk staff.
Recently, Regency Training and Consulting assisted an Atlanta firm by providing new hire training, summer associate training, and desk-side assistance during a recruitment phase in one of their cities. Training was provided in the traditional classroom manner as well as through videoconferencing.
Regency Training and Consulting was contracted by a firm to research how Microsoft Outlook could be used in a legal environment to enhance productivity. Upon completing the research, a 60 minute PowerPoint presentation was created based on the results of the findings.
